Arsenal set to sign Cech

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech is very likely on his way to Arsenal. The Chelsea FC legend and Czech Republic goalkeeper has made over three hundred appearances for Chelsea and has spent more than eleven years at Stamford Bridge.

With Chelsea, Cech has won four FA Cup title, four Premier League titles, three League cup titles and one Europa League and Champions League title. He was the number one at Chelsea for many years but last year played second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois from Belgium who has done a great job at Chelsea so far.

Despite Jose Mourinho reportedly not keen on the transfer, the clubs are close to agreeing the details of the transfer which is likely to be somewhere in the region of eleven million. Cech will get around one hundred thousand pounds per week in a three year contract.

The deal is likely to be finalised in the next couple of days but as is always the case, particularly with Chelsea, I won’t be certain until the transfer is confirmed by the club.

Where does this leave us considering the goalkeeping situation at the club? Over the course of the past season, we have been alternating between Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina and both have done quite well overall.

Peter Cech is certain to bring in a lot of experience to the squad and will be a great asset if he can recapture the form that he has at Chelsea. He still has a couple of good years left in him. It does probably mean that either Szczesny or Ospina will leave the club and the desire of one of them to leave could be behind the somewhat unexpected move.
